The creative process of S.Thala started in Kerala in December 2019 un der the direction of Annette Leday\, a French choreographer and dancer imm ersed in Indian and French theatrical and dance forms.\n\nBy revisiting Du ras’ fantasized India in this cycle and the very real one at the heart o f her company’s productions\, Annette Leday proposes a poetic visual app roach of Duras prose through a choreographed interpretation of her organic writing.\n\nFor Annette Leday\, “creating a contemporary dance performa nce is a bit like writing a poem”. S.Thala focuses more on exploring the relationships and emotions of the “characters” and the emblematic atm ospheres of Duras’ universe than on trying to reproduce or illustrate th e complex narrative schemes of her texts.\n\nAbout Annette Leday &\; Ke li company:\n\nDancer and choreographer Annette Leday has developed a uniq ue approach to intercultural contemporary creation\, focusing on the dance and theater traditions of India and France\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter training as a n actress in France she went to India in 1978 to study Kathakali dance-the ater. With scholarships from the ICCR Indian Government and the French Min istry of Culture she practiced Kathakali in Kerala at the Sadanam and Kala mandalam institutions\, participating in performances of the two troupes i n India as well as abroad. A graduate from the Institut des Langues Orient ales in Paris\, she speaks fluent Malayalam. Since 1989\, she has directed and choreographed performances for both Indian and Western dancers\, acto rs and musicians.\n\nThe artistic project of the Annette Leday/Keli Compan y is to orient and evolve rare traditional performance techniques towards contemporary creation. Building on Annette Leday’s pioneering choreograp hy\, the company has established a constant dialogue between artists from India and from France and has developed an original process of exchanges e ver since its creation in the nineteen-eighties.
