About ‘In the Mood for Love’ (2015)

A story of people who have LIVED and LOVED, the Film explores queer love and relationships, togetherness, love, sexuality and illegality in India.
On 6 September 2018, the Supreme Court stated that Section 377 was unconstitutional “in so far as it criminalises consensual sexual conduct between adults of the same sex”.
One year after the historical decision, the screening of ‘In the Mood for Love’ is the opportunity to draw up a review on the situation of the LGBTQ+ community in India.

About the speakers
Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil
Manvendra Singh Gohil is an Indian prince, born on September 23, 2965 as the son of Maharana Shri Raghubir Singhji Rajendrasinghji Sahib. Internationaly reknown, he is the first openly gay prince in the world. Marriage in 1991, the union ended in divorce when Manvendra revealed his homosexuality to his wife. Several years later, he got strongly involved in a social network to help gays in Gujarat. It is in 2002 only that prince Singh Gohil came out in the open. Following to an interview given to a journalist that same year, he received a huge exposure that literally transformed his life. Considered as one of the leading figures of LGBTQ+ activism in India, he is now totally dedicated to the cause and runs a few charities, included AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) that provides cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to over 1 lakh people in 43 countries.

At the crossroad between arts, humanities and public debate, the Doc’N Talk series is born from a previous collaboration between Alliance Française de Delhi (AFD) and the Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT). Curated by Moane Rosello, these monthly screenings aim to promote Indian documentary films by offering a dedicated area for discussions and exchanges. Focusing on contemporary issues, the post-screening talks involve filmmakers, artists, academics and protagonists together to reinforce exchange with diverse audiences.
