With the aim to celebrate and highlight female musicians and composers on the occasion of International Women’s Day the Alliance Française of Delhil is proud to present female French duet musicians for a performance dedicated to the presence and recognition of unjustly forgotten French women composers whose contribution to the world of music was undervalued because of the patriarchal mindset. To strike the perfect chord of equality, the concluding piece by the duo will be presented from the composition of the greatest of all time, Ravel.
Two instruments, two outstanding female musicians:
Iseut Chuat was introduced to the world of music by her teacher, the cellist Alain Meunier, at the age of 10. As a soloist, concert performer and music teacher, she studied and worked with Claudio Abbado and Janos Starker. Iseut Chuat’s career as a soloist has led her to be the guest of numerous symphony orchestras all over the world. Passionate about chamber music, she plays the great pages of this repertoire with renowned artists such as György Sebök, her mentor, Ivry Gitlis, Kolia Blacher, Barnabas Kelemen, Ilya Gringold, Bruno Canino, Karl Leister, Maurice Bourque, Jacques Zoon, Natalie Gutman, Janos Starker. Iseut Chuat’s repertoire covers a wide variety of styles from baroque to contemporary works. Eager to the contemporary music repertoire, several composers dedicated their works to her composers dedicated their works to her, notably Paul Desenne, Venezuelan composer Paul Desenne, in the suite for solo cello “Jaguar song” and Bernhard Heiden, a great student of Paul Hindemith, in “Pas de deux Concerto for flute, cello and orchestra, as well as “Inventions” for flute and cello. Marie Radauer-Plank was born in 1986 in Salzburg, Austria, and began playing the violin at the age of three. She studied with Lukas Hagen, Ulf Schneider and Augustin Dumay, in addition to baroque violin. The French pianist Kim Barbier stands out as a versatile artist who feels equally comfortable in piano concertos and chamber music. She graduated from the Paris Conservatoire, under Pierre-Laurent Aimard’s supervision. c. Among the orchestras she has played with in recent years are the Zagreb Radio Orchestra, the China National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the Neues Kammerorchester Potsdam. As a soloist, Kim Barbier has performed in the world’s great concert halls, such as the Philharmonie Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Beijing Concert Hall and thePalau de la Musica in Valencia.
She has also been a guest at renowned international festivals such as the Festival International de Menton, the Thüringer Bachwochen, the Rolandseck Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Easter Festival in Salzburg and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Kim Barbier is an enthusiastic chamber musician and has already performed with musicians such as Sol Gabetta, Emmanuel Pahud, Antoine Tamestit, Guy Braunstein, David Geringas, Sharon Kam, Paul Meyer and the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin. For two years she has been a member of the Berlin Piano Quartet performing with musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic. Her second album with quartets by Mozart, Mahler and Schumann, released by RCA/Sony Music in 2018, was highly praised by the international press.
