Sound Documentaries Screening and Discussion
Join us for the screening of ‘L’expérience de ses fantômes (The Sound of the Ghosts)’ by Yasmine Mahjoubi & Neelansh Mittra, ‘Nuisibles’ by Ka-Young Park and Dimitris Roidis, ‘Exiles’ by Konstantin Troitskiy ‘ and Forging Falafel’ by Raghad Kasim & Vedvanti Machindra Kasture on the 7th of June 2024.
The screenings will be followed by a discussion with Neelansh Mittra and Vedvanti Kasture, scholarship laureates of the International Sound Documentary Summer Programme held at ENS Louis-Lumière in Paris, 2023.
The short documentary screenings will follow an insightful discussion with the directors Neelansh Mittra and Vedvanti Kasture.

L’EXPÉRIENCE DE SES FANTÔMES / THE SOUND OF THE GHOSTS BY YASMINE MAHJOUBI AND NEELANSH MITTRA
Synopsis: The sound documentary follows Eva, a Spanish tour guide living in Paris for the past 7 years. Eva conducts the ‘Mysteries and Legends Tour’, every week in the heart of the city in Île Saint-Louis. The tour traces the dark history of Paris, where she introduces her audience to the violence that consumed the city in the Middle Ages. Through Eva’s undying passion for discovery, the piece invites the listener to see beyond what is mostly known of Paris today; asking them to patiently observe the city, and listen deeply to the sound of its ghosts.
‘Nuisibles’ by Ka-Young Park and Dimitris Roidis
Synopsis: In the piece, two universes are connected in a bizarre way: a vermin exterminator based in Paris, and stories of the oppressed youth. After a police union’s public statement on 30th July, these two universes suddenly intersect. Since then, all muted voices start to burst out.
‘Exiles’ by Konstantin Troitskiy
Synopsis: What does it mean to be an exile? Not feeling at home in your own country? Manage to live in several countries in one year? The audio documentary project « Exiles » explores this topic through the fate of a russian couple in love. Sasha is a musician and sound designer, Ira works in an opposition media banned in Russia. They both miss their homes and are trying to build a new life and to find a forgotten ‘sense of home’ here in Paris.
Forging Falafel’ by Raghad Kasim & Vedvanti Machindra Kasture
Synopsis: Embark on a short auditory adventure with « Forging Falafel ». This audio documentary whisks you from the Middle East to the cultural melting-pot of Paris, unraveling the captivating tale of falafel. Beyond its culinary allure, falafel carries a remarkable narrative of cultural heritage and unexpected conflict.
