Delhi’s Alliance française is proud to present Yann Kerninon as our September month guest on‘Writers, etc’ who will be in conversation with talented author Rana Dasgupta.
Writer, essayist, philosopher, art teacher and a magician… Yann kerninon is a professional conjurer and a multi-faceted character.
Through a poetical, libertarian, and humorous style, this free-spirit seeks to determine, experiment, and embody the means of recovering a vivifying, genuine and enchanted life.
His first essay, Cahiers d’Ubiquité (Workbook on Ubiquity) was published in 2003. Updating the primary sense of ubiquity, which is the supernatural ability of being in different places at the same time, he undertakes to rethink simultaneously all fields of life, from cycling to poetry, from Labradors to society, from the giggles to terrorism. He is currently in the process of writing a second volume on the same.
In 2005, his second book Moyens d’accès au monde (How to reach the World) was conceived, as it subtitle tells, as a “Handbook for Survival in Desert Times” in today’s world. This philosophical book deals with modernity in a very original style, tinged with autobiographical, poetical, and satirical notes. It mingled the great philosophers of the past (Nietzsche, Héraclite…) to some prominent ideas and figures of popular culture, including the Punk movement or the Monty Pythons.
In 2009, Tentative d’assassinat du bourgeois qui est en moi (An Attempt to Assassinate My Inner Bourgeois) analyzes contemporary times as the failure of class struggle for social justice. Indeed, bourgeois spirit has triumphed, in spite of some ineffective efforts on the part of the “anti-bourgeois”… This dynamic, vehement, energetic book was awarded Pamphlet Prize of the Year 2009 in France. Its English translation is to be released in India in September 2011 by Full Circle.
On this occasion, Yann Kerninon will be at AFD, in conversation with Rana Dasgupta, to talk in his very personal manner about his work and the way he understands the era we live in. The discussion will be in English.
Don’t miss this unique occasion of discovering this immensely promising, original and audacious French author! Watch out for Writers, etc the first Thursday of every month.
