✨ Palais d’Or by Thomas Henriot

Alliance Française de Delhi is proud to present Palais d’Or, a solo exhibition by French contemporary artist Thomas Henriot, as part of the French-Indian Year of Innovation 2026.

Inspired by Indian palaces and architectural heritage, Palais d’Or (Palace of Gold) explores the dynamic space where art meets innovation. The exhibition brings together drawings created in India and later transformed in France into monumental tapestries using an advanced Jacquard weaving technique developed by Les Soieries Brochier.

Tracing a journey of ideas, materials, and craftsmanship across geographies, the exhibition reflects a meaningful circular exchange: conceived in India, developed in France, and presented again in India. Rooted in a long-standing cultural dialogue between the two countries, Palais d’Or highlights innovation not as a rupture from tradition, but as its continuation and transformation through contemporary processes.

Presented at Alliance Française de Delhi, the exhibition reinforces the institution’s role as a cultural bridge—connecting artistic practices, textile heritage, and technological advancement between France and India.

On View: 20 – 28 February 2026
Time: 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

About the Artist

Thomas Henriot is a French contemporary artist known for his fluid, calligraphic ink drawings created on long rolls of paper. Often working outdoors in urban environments, Henriot draws directly from life, blurring the boundaries between drawing and performance.

Deeply nomadic in spirit, his practice spans France, Cuba, and beyond, capturing the political, architectural, and emotional rhythms of the cities he inhabits. His works have been exhibited at major international institutions, including Centre Pompidou and Maison Européenne de la Photographie, and are held in prestigious public and private collections worldwide.

For Palais d’Or, Henriot presents new high-tech gold-thread works produced in collaboration with Soieries Brochier (Villeurbanne), an atelier continuing Lyon’s silk-weaving tradition dating back to the 16th century. These innovative tapestries reinterpret historic craftsmanship through cutting-edge textile technology, offering an immersive artistic textile experience.
