Erik Truffaz in concert
accompanied by Mounir Troudi & Philippe Garcia
Saturday, 8 January 2011, M.L. Bhartia Auditorium, 7.00 p.m.
A trio that merges the electric spirit of an outstanding drummer, a Tunisian singer-violinist, and a best-selling trumpet player who has to his credit 12 records on the “Blue Note” Label.Their repertoire takes its inspiration from the “Paris” project, developed for the two last years with Philippe Garcia and Sly Johnson; from the album “Saloua”, recorded with Mounir Troudi and Philippe Garcia in 2004; and from “Kpt Planete”, Philippe Garcia’s unplugged Electro solo. A journey passing from Muezzin songs to Jazz poetry, via Electro. In the ten past years, Erik Truffaz has acquired world-spread fame and is undoubtedly known as the best French jazzman of his generation. He more than once throughout his career shared the stage with musicians of international repute, playing with Joe Lovano, Dewey Redman, Michael Brecker, Richard Galliano – among others.
Besides founding two quartets (the Truffaz Quartet and the Ladyland Quartet), he also collaborated with Murcof & Singh, Sly Johnson & Philippe Garcia, or Malcolm Braff, Indrani & Apurba Mukherjhee, with whom he recorded ‘Benares’ in 2008. It all results in a very personal, many-sided style that melts hip-hop, rock’n’roll or groove, depending on the mood, with electronic jazz.
