Saba Hasan, a noted contemporary artist. has always shown an astonishing variety of works spanning conceptual ideas with her book installations, masterful draftsmanship, composition and a long experience of organic materials. The artist’s independence and her adventurous spirit have visibly come together to make her work idiosyncratic and powerful.
At this show we present her new works comprising short videos, drawings, book installations and photographs, which are her experiential links between the natural and the constructed worlds. The videos and photographs are from her acclaimed Bandagi Shah Itinerant Project culled from her ceaseless travelling in keeping with her family tradition of itinerant Sufism with its close connection to spirituality. In her large charcoal drawings too, she provides metaphysical glimpses of encounters between the human spirit and the natural world. Saba has woven together diverse experiences to provide a reflection of peace and hope, both rare commodities in the contemporary world. She draws lessons from nature and reminds us through her art that human consciousness is capable of creating a reality which is not only beautiful but also filled with hope which is so integral to our fractured minds.
