Rencontres du Toit du Monde – Fifth Edition

An Evening with H.E. Yangsi Kalu Rinpoche

Screening  & Exhibition of Echoes of Devotion by Max Vadukul

18 December | 6:00 PM | M.L. Bhartia Auditorium, Alliance Française de Delhi

The French Embassy in India, the French Institute in India, and Alliance Française de Delhi are honoured to welcome His Eminence Yangsi Kalu Rinpoche as part of the fifth edition of Rencontres du Toit du Monde. The evening will begin with a talk by H.E. Kalu Rinpoche, followed by the screening of Echoes of Devotion—a 14-minute animated visual composition by Max Vadukul.

Born in 1990 in Sonada, H.E. Kalu Rinpoche was recognized as the reincarnation of Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche by Tai Situ Rinpoche and confirmed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Continuing the profound legacy of his predecessor—who established Dashang Kagyu Ling in Burgundy—he has further strengthened the spiritual ties between France and the Buddhist world.

A defining moment in this connection was the historic 2023 pilgrimage, during which sacred Buddha Relics were carried from France to Bhutan. This unique journey represented a remarkable “reverse flow” of spiritual transmission, offering a meaningful gift from France to the Himalayan kingdom.

Having completed the traditional three-year Shangpa Kagyu retreat in 2008, H.E. Kalu Rinpoche now guides disciples across the world with deep compassion, insight, and clarity. He is also the author of The Yoga of Niguma: Tibetan Practices for a Luminous Mind, a work that brings this precious lineage to contemporary practitioners.

Join us for an evening of wisdom, culture, and spiritual dialogue.

Screening & Exhibition of Echoes of Devotion by Max Vadukul

The evening will begin with a talk by H.E. Kalu Rinpoche, followed by the screening of Echoes of Devotion—a 14-minute animated visual composition by Max Vadukul.

In Echoes of Devotion, Vadukul presents a rare and intimate record of a spiritual event unprecedented in the 21st century: the journey of the Buddha’s bone relic across Bhutan in November 2024, guided by His Eminence Kalu Rinpoche. Working in the tradition of long-form reportage, he spent nearly a month embedded in Bhutan, documenting sustained monastic life and ritual practice through over 150 photographs created during continuous fieldwork.

The programe also includes a photo exhibition by Max Vadukul, featuring selected works from this body of work, offering audiences a deeper visual engagement with the lived rhythms of devotion, movement, and ritual.
