Women in Sci-Fi: Mythology, Eco-Feminism & the Future

A conversation with Madhureeta Anand and Shailja Negi

4 November 2026 | 6:30 PM | Library, Alliance Française de Delhi

What happens when mythology meets science fiction? And what does it mean to imagine a future where women and the planet reclaim their agency?

The French Institute in India, in partnership with Alliance Française de Delhi, invites you to an evening with award-winning filmmaker and author Madhureeta Anand, in conversation with Shailja Negi, Head of Culture & Partnerships at Alliance Française de Delhi.

Drawing inspiration from her novel Krishna Circus, Madhureeta Anand brings together mythology and science fiction in a compelling story of resistance, destiny and the fight to reclaim a living planet. At its heart is a thought-provoking question: If the future can be rewritten, what must we change in the present?

The conversation will explore the representation of women in science fiction and fantasy, the role of eco-feminism in contemporary literature, and the connections between female bodily autonomy and ecological exploitation. It will examine how patriarchal structures shape both women’s lives and our relationship with the natural world, while imagining new possibilities for resistance and change.

Madhureeta Anand is an award-winning filmmaker, writer and director. She wrote and directed the feature film Kajarya and is the founder of Phree For Safety, a women’s safety initiative. Her debut novel, Krishna Circus, was launched at the Jaipur Literature Festival. Her body of work spans narrative feature films, documentaries and series across genres, earning recognition at both national and international levels.

Join us for an engaging evening of ideas, literature and conversation exploring the intersection of gender, ecology, mythology and imagined futures.
