ANITA GHEI MALHOTRA

solo exhibition

9Feb 2012 – 12 Feb 2012

Preview- Gallery Romaine Rolland , 5pm 9th Feb 2012

These works  are a culmination of Anita Ghei Malhotra’s  several years of  studio-practice and doctoral research ( Art and Art Education) at Teachers College, Columbia University New York City and her spiritual experiences while she lived  in  Manhattan and then back again in New Delhi. She has  recently been awarded  Senior Fellowship by the Indian Ministry of Culture to continue her research based work in indigenous Tantric art.

As Anita says – The research   in Indian Indigenous Tantric art and its education  eventually fused with my spiritual seeking. Through meditation I realized that my inner creative process is just  another way of Kundalini Shakti or the Mystic Power  leading me into a heightened awareness of the Self ~ that the Guru Principle or my Sadhana (spiritual practice) is not separate from the experience of Beauty and Truth.

The idea of singularity and  immanence or the individual Jivatma and the collective soul or Paramatma, is really a search for unity with the eternal truth, where the given means is the universal language of art.

I hope thus, by examining inherent spiritual and aesthetic  inter-connections, a deeper level of transformation may occur amongst  diverse cultures, where ancient indigenous  ritual-based paintings and representations are not rejected, divided or separated for future progress but are accepted and included in the whole of education through art. “Penser une pense’e,” Alain Badiou. What art educates us for is therefore nothing apart from  it’s own existence. The only question is that of encountering this existence, that is of thinking through a form of thought. (trans.)
