“Cardinal! Wasn’t it ideal destiny for an irascible authoritarian and solitary? Because here is the Molière’s Misanthrope in a very comfortable situation of a man who‘s separated from the world but holding it in his iron fist: in the seventeenth century, the power of a prelate is considerable.
Twenty years later, he goes to his lover, who is now in her forties, still attractive but married and perfectly happy with her four children. But what brings him now to this mother of the family without a story? To save her! He says that for months, he’s haunted by a nightmare and he has come with a message of God, according to which Célimène has a mortal danger… Therefore, he decides to confess a woman, too happy to be honest.
This “confession”, alternately funny and erotic, will turn fast in the verbal sparring match between an almost fundamentalist monk and a loose, a figurehead of seventeenth century which strides up. But from this conflict, only love will win, because even twenty years later, the lovers of Molière still love each other, and forever.”
