Stiff Kittens Inc presents A Tribute to Serge Gainsbourg for World Music Day, a project centered around the songs of French composer/singer Serge Gainsbourg. The initial concert will take place on World Music Day (21st June) at Blue Frog Delhi.
Serge Gainsbourg was a French singer, songwriter, composer, actor and director. Gainsbourg’s extremely varied musical style and individuality make him difficult to categorize. His legacy has been firmly established, and he is often regarded as one of the world’s most influential popular musicians.
Gainsbourg’s music has reached legendary stature in France. His lyrical brilliance in French has left an extraordinary legacy. His music, always progressive, covered many styles: jazz, ballads, mambo, lounge, reggae, pop, funk, disco, calypso, Africana, bossa nova, and rock n’ roll. He has gained a following in the English-speaking world with many non-mainstream artists finding his arrangements highly influential.
Production company Stiff Kittens Inc has put together a revue with a strong line up of 13 musicians and dancers featuring 25 songs of the French composer. As well as Gainsbourg, songs of his that were originally performed by artists such as Brigitte Bardot, Francoise Hardy, Jane Birkin and France Gall will be interpreted by various singers. Classic songs such as Initials BB, Intoxicated Man, La Javanaise, Histoire de Melody Nelson, Laisse tomber les filles, 69 année érotique, Je T’Aime…Moi Non Plus, Lemon Incest, Bonnie and Clyde, etc.
