Writers, etc, platform for the written word at Alliance Francaise de Delhi, is extremely excited to bring you the writer, André Schiffrin who will in conversation with S. Anand.
André Schiffrin has been a leading figure in the book publishing world for nearly 50 years. For thirty years, he was the publisher of Pantheon Books where he published titles by Jean-Paul Sartre, Studs Terkel, Art Spiegelman, Noam Chomsky and Michel Foucault. In 1990 Schiffrin left Pantheon to found The New Press, the non-profit publishing house. He is the author of The Business of Books, Words and Money, A Political Education: Coming of Age in Paris and New York (a memoir), and Dr. Seuss & Co. Go to War: The World War II Editorial Cartoons of America’s Leading Comic Artists. In November 2011, his book The Business of Words is to be released in India by Navanyana Publishing.
S. Anand is the publisher of Navayana, an independent publishing house that focuses on issues of caste and marginality. In 2007, Anand won International Young Publisher of the Year award of the British Council–London Book Fair. Before turning to publishing full-time, he was a print journalist for ten years and has worked with Outlook, The Hindu, The New Indian Express and Telheka. He is the co-author of Bhimayana, the graphic biography of Dr B.R. Ambedkar. He lives in New Delhi.
