Concert: From Bach to Bhupali

Virtuoso Cellist Saskia Rao-de Haas on her Indian Cello and child prodigy Ishaan Leonard Rao on Piano will be performing in a unique concert ‘From Bach to Bhupali’ at the Alliance Francaise, New Delhi. Concert: InChorus 11 – Queens of Melody

For the 11th performance of [InChorus], two gems of music will meet on stage and marry their exquisite styles of singing and fiddle playing: the French singer and hurdy-gurdy player Éléonore Fourniau who performs the pains and joys of the Kurdish people with stunning sensitivity and the Indian violinist Nandini Shankar who interprets the ragas of Hindustani music in the gayaki ang (vocal style) with great subtlety.

Nishant, a young Indian writer living in Paris, is journeying down the Ganges, from its source in the Himalayas to the sea. Haunted by the fantasy, or the memory, of a beautiful Parisian woman called Jaya, he plans to write a book around his voyage. On the banks of the Ganges, he chances upon Zehra, an irresistible poetess-dancing girl in the tradition of the great courtesans who performs in a nearby brothel. Zehra resurrects the memory of Jaya.

Conference: The Intellectual Geography of ALBERT CAMUS

Nobel prize winning author Albert Camus is regarded as a master of French literature, but he is also considered as an inspiring intellectual and philosopher engaged in the great torments of the 20th century. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the publication of his second collection of writings Les Noces, published in 1938 1939, Alliance Francaise (Delhi) will present a one-day conference on May 3, 2019. The theme of the conference, “The Intellectual Geography of Albert Camus” will bring together scholars and specialists of Camus to discuss the relevance of his literary and philosophical works, as well as the influence that his thoughts and his ever-evolving social, cultural and political engagements had on the evolution of the French society and beyond.
