Wen-Ying LAN started playing piano at the age of 7. She graduated from the National Academy of the Arts in Taiwan. Afterwards she pursued further studies at the Universities of Music and Dramatic Performing Arts in Graz and in Vienna, Austria where she was schooled by Russian Professor Rudolf Kehrer as well as Austrian Professors Doris Blumauer-Wolf and Walter Fleischmann. In 1996 she won the special prize “Ada Labèque” at the National Médoc-Aquitaine piano competition. In 1997 she participated in the masterclass of Théodore Paraskivesko at the Paris Conservatory.
A guest performer at numerous festivals, Wen-Ying LAN has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jena in Germany, and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. Her recitals have been featured in some of the greatest concert halls in France, Austria, China, Spain, and Taiwan. She also performs regularly in chamber music recitals where she captivates the audience alongside soloists from Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, and Israel.
Her repertoire is deeply rooted in musical composition from the 20th Century. Her musical performance seeks to cross borders and cultures. From 2001 to 2004, she presented the entire piano collection of Maurice Ravel in Taiwan. Milhaud, Poulenc, Schönberg, Scriabine, Shchedrin, Stravinsky are regularly featured in her concerts.
Wen-Ying LAN is also a juror of piano competitions and artistic consultant to the Overseas Chinese Institute of Technology, and a founding member and artistic director of the Taiwan International Piano Festival.
