The story begins the day after, when the physical pain slowly recedes and is replaced by an immense void. The acid hasn’t just erased their faces; it has also taken away their lives. And that is probably what their attackers wanted. Today, four to five women in India have acid thrown on their faces every week. Because they said ‘no’ to a man or refused to comply with a marriage proposal.
But the women we’re following have decided that they won’t be victims. They don’t even want to hear the word. They call themselves fighters. Laxmi, Rupa, Ritu and the others are taking back their lives. They are doing this for themselves, for those who are going through the same experience…they are also doing this to take revenge on hate. Don’t be surprised to see them laughing, or dancing. Today, together, they’re learning to love again. And without even realizing it, they’re sending everyone who crosses their path a message of unbelievable strength.
