Join us for an evening with Maya Kamaty, a Réunionese singer who brings together the traditional rhythms of maloya and contemporary sounds. Singing in Réunion Creole, she draws on the stories, culture and spirit of her island to create music that is deeply rooted yet constantly evolving.
From the hypnotic rhythms of maloya to the urban influences of hip-hop, trap and atmospheric pop, Maya Kamaty pushes musical boundaries while giving voice to her Creole identity. Her music reflects the rich cultural heritage of Réunion, an island in the Indian Ocean shaped by African, Malagasy, Indian, Chinese and European influences.
The connection between India and Réunion runs deep. Following the abolition of slavery, many indentured workers arrived on the island from South India, bringing their languages, music and traditions. Over generations, these influences became part of Réunion’s Creole culture. Maloya, the island’s traditional music, carries echoes of this shared history.

About Maya Kamaty
Rooted in the Creole culture of Réunion, Maya Kamaty is known for her bold musical expression and commitment to giving Creole a universal voice. Her debut album, Santié Papang (2014), established her as a distinctive voice, followed by Pandié (2018), which blends maloya with contemporary sounds. With Sovaz (2024), she embraced a more urban direction, bringing together trap, hip-hop and atmospheric pop.
Her music is authentic, daring and deeply connected to her island’s identity, carrying the spirit of Réunion to audiences around the world.
