About the exhibition – Emotional Abstractions by Lorraine Thiria

Photography has a force that alters perceptions and relationship to time, creating sensitive
connections and vital emotions. It has the power to anchor sensations, a musicality, vibrations, a space where sounds and dreams vibrate. It is an imprint that shifts the gaze, what Leonard Cohen called the «crack that lets the light in».

Inspired with this insight I use my photography of «matter», essentially wall matter, to
experience this crack, this passage, in a lively and enchanted way. The walls are for me the materialization of a sensitive body in permanent apprehension. Their material is the crack that lets the light in ; it enchants our world by revealing the imprints of time and its memories, and by creating a link between past and present, visible and invisible, presence and absence.

By capturing a mural detail, a line, an asperity, a trace, a furrow, a wound, my photographs
allow us to extract ourselves from reality, to lose all spatial and temporal reference points and
melt into abstraction. They aim to paint a fertile abstraction, to create sensations and emotions, and to liberate the imagination so as to feel alive and connect us all, collectively.

About the artist

Lorraine ThiriaLorraine Thiria was born in Paris, France. Trained in painting at the Versailles School of Mural Art and in plastic arts at École Boulle in Paris, Lorraine has established her own business as a painter. She creates unique and original textured walls for her clients using pigments, sands, plasters, and oxidized surfaces.

Her work as a painter involves observing, capturing, and utilizing numerous photographs of walls. These images are integral to her artistic process, reflecting both inner journeys and distant travels. They embody impressions that continually enrich and renew her creative universe.

Lorraine describes herself as an adventurer of the sensory world, striving to translate her emotions into photographic images. She seeks to capture the language of walls, inhabiting their colorful memories and whispers.

In recent years, Lorraine’s photographic approach has evolved into an independent art form, distinct from her painting. Her photographic vision deconstructs reality to capture its abstraction, with a pictorial filter that always accompanies and often precedes her gaze.
